You are likely aware of the saga of Fox News personalities Megyn Kelly and Gretchen Carlson and their grievances with the network’s former chairman Roger Ailes. Ms. Carlson was compelled to sue Mr. Ailes for sexual harassment, and Ms. Kelly alleged that she, too, was harassed by Mr. Ailes.
Ms. Kelly’s harassment allegations were part of her recently published memoir, “Settle for More.” And now there are plans to use the memoir as the subject of a film, the screenplay of which will be penned by Charles Randolph, who also wrote the Oscar-winning screenplay for the movie “The Big Short.”
Contained in “Settle for More” are passages describing incidents of sexual harassment that allegedly involved the former chairman doing such things as attempting to grab and kiss Ms. Kelly. The book also describes how the women working at the network banned together to help put an end to the harassment, all the while risking their own careers.
Of course, at this point, the film is only in the planning stages. But hopefully, the project will come to fruition and be a source of inspiration for women who have suffered the indignity of being sexually harassed in the workplace.
But while it took courage for Megyn Kelly and Gretchen Carlson to bring their experiences into the public eye, most women simply lack the public profile that can help shield them from retaliation should they wish to file a complaint. In most cases, women need to find an advocate who can provide them with effective representation when filing a sexual harassment complaint against an employer.
